Approved: Terry Lynn – Fire
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 7 June 2011
Released two years ago, Terry Lynn’s debut album, ‘Kingstonlogic 2.0’, expressed life in modern Jamaica over heavy electro courtesy of producer Phred. It was a big sounding album, and for her live show Lynn took things bigger with a live band that included no less than three drummers. But now back in the studio she’s stripped things back to just her and a producer once again. This time she’s elected to work with British dubstep dandy High Rankin.
The first track to be released from these sessions is ‘Fire’, which is released via Phree on 20 Jun. Staccato drums and a throat cutting bassline are given extra weight by soft piano sections. When that beat comes back in it knocks you right back, reaching up to meet Lynn’s hard rapping, which gives way to her equally impressive singing voice. If this sets the standard for the rest of the album, due for release in the autumn, Lynn could be well on the way to achieving the difficult task of topping her debut
