Neil Young cancels Euro dates after guitarist breaks arm
By Aly Barchi | Published on Monday 12 August 2013
Frank Sampedro, guitarist in Neil Young’s band Crazy Horse, has broken his hand, meaning Young and Crazy Horse won’t play any of the British/European live dates they’d planned to play this month, the last of which was a show at London’s O2 Arena on 19 Aug. Sampedro, a source told Rolling Stone last Thursday, only has a “mild fracture”, and is anticipated to be fit again by the time the band’s North American tour starts in late August.
Sampedro said back in April that there was a chance the August outing could be Young and co’s last, adding (with remarkable prescience, it has to be said) at the time: “Our shows are physical. It takes a lot of energy to play that much. It just seems at some point something is going to break”.
It’s unclear whether the band will set replacement dates for the cancelled appearances, but they have said sorry for cancelling them, so that’s a start.
