Kerry Katona has come out fighting against Cash Lady, the payday loans company that the Atomic Kitten singer fronted for a while, until being dropped last week after she was declared bankrupt for the second time.

Katona, back in Atomic Kitten since ‘The Big Reunion’ telly show, has told The Sun that she found out she was being dropped by Cash Lady through the papers, having recorded a new ad for the firm just days earlier. As previously reported, Katona entered bankruptcy again last week, despite the recent revival of her pop career.

Asked by The Sun about the end of her deal with Cash Lady, Katona said: “They knew exactly what they were doing when they took me on. They looked at my popularity and my financial problems and thought, ‘This will get us a shit load of publicity and make us tons of money’. And that’s exactly what they got. I’m the best thing that ever happened to that firm. They got their pound of flesh then ditched me at the first sign of trouble”.

She added: “They dropped me in a heartbeat. Imagine what they’ll do to you. They didn’t even have the courage to tell me they had given me the boot. They just announced it to the world in a statement. How dare they tell everyone about my financial problems? I have a right to do that in my own time. I could have had a breakdown for all they cared. It could have finished me off. What kind of message does that send out to their customers? Basically they’re saying if you’re struggling we’ll come for you and we’ll stitch you up”.

Continuing with her theme, Katona went on: “It was my moment of need but they stabbed me in the back. Don’t get me wrong, I only did the adverts for the money. I needed to provide for my kids. But the way they behaved hasn’t done them any favours. Payday loan firms have got a terrible reputation as it is. I’m sure this has made it worse”.

In a statement, Cash Lady told reporters: “Our first TV advert had a complaint upheld because we mentioned Kerry’s past financial problems. Now she is back in bankruptcy we could not continue with her due to social responsibility. Kerry was a pleasure to work with. We wish her all the best in future”.
