Hunger striking Pussy Riot member taken to hospital
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 29 May 2013
Pussy Riot’s Maria Alyokhina, who has been on hunger strike for over a week now in the Russian prison where she is currently being held, was admitted to hospital earlier this week, Pyotr Verzilov, the husband of her jailed bandmate Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, has told The Associated Press.
As previously reported, Alyokhina, one of two Pussy Riot members jailed last year for performing a protest song in a Moscow church, was refused parole last week.
She also recently spent five months in solitary confinement after accusing prison officials of attempting to turn other inmates against her, and of encouraging some of the more dangerous criminals in the prison to threaten her with violence.
