Last week I went to The Great Escape’s Balearic showcase at The Garage in London, as tipped in this very column, and had my mind opened to a world of indie-rock from those Mediterranean islands which, if I’m honest, I wasn’t really aware was there. Who knows what treats could be awaiting this week? Well, me. I do. Because I’ve trawled the world of music and found them all. There are no surprises left. And because I like to be helpful, I’ve written them all down for you here*.

01: Independent Label Market. This Saturday, a number of the independent record labels who lost stock in the Sony DADC fire earlier this year will set up shop in Spitalfields market for the third Independent Label Market of the year (the second in London). Domino, Memphis Industries, Ninja Tune and Lucky Number will be amongst the labels represented at the event. Last month, CMU Business Editor Chris Cook caught up with ILM founder Joe Daniel to find out more.

02: ATP Nightmare Before Christmas. ATP’s annual festive festival takes place at Butlins in Minehead this weekend, and is this year curated by Battles, Caribou and Les Savy Fav. Among those playing are Gary Numan, Four Tet, Washed Out, Archers Of Loaf, Flying Lotus, Holy Fuck and Marnie Stern.

03: CMU Training. If you were hoping to come along to one of our CMU training courses in 2011, well goddamn it you’d better hurry up because this Wednesday is your last chance (they will be returning in 2012, but can you afford to not know stuff for another two months?). The Promoting Music course tells you how to build a profile for your artists, labels or events using both traditional and new publicity techniques. Included is a review of the UK music media – print, online, radio and TV – and how they can be used to promote artists and releases, an overview of the traditional music marketing and PR approach, and an introduction to new ways of promoting music, including the role of social media. Places are £95 plus VAT and can be booked here.

04: New releases. Right, so, my top album of the week has to be The Cure’s Bestival headline set, recorded at the close of this year’s festival back in September. It’s a lengthy, career-spanning collection and well worth listening to. Plus, it’s for charity. Also out this week is ‘Lioness’, the posthumous collection of Amy Winehouse recordings, Fred Falke‘s ‘Part IV’, Iron And Wine‘s ‘KCRW Sessions’, as well as singles and EPs from Fixers, Famy and Ital Tek. Oh, and I should probably mention Korn‘s dubstep album. There, I have.

05: Gigs. If you happen to be in San Francisco this week, you could try to get into one of Metallica’s 30th anniversary shows at the Fillmore. As an added bonus, they’ll almost certainly not be performing with Lou Reed. Also returning to their origins this week will be Coldplay, who are booked to play Dingwalls in Camden for Radio 2. Oh, and New Order have a sold out show at The Troxy in London too. But if it’s gigs you might actually be able to attend you want, then try AlunaGeorge‘s end of year party at The Nest, Bleeding Heart Narrative at The Vortex, Real Estate at The Scala, The Leisure Society at The Barbican, Canadian Blast and Oui Love’s free show at the Rich Mix, or Iceage, who are on tour.

Now, why not listen to the CMU podcast? I can think of no reason not to.

*Contents of the CMU Five Day Forecast do not constitute absolutely everything that is happening in the music world this week. But everything else is probably shit.
