One last dubious lawsuit from the American pop courts for 2012. Britney Spears’ former brother-in-law has accused the pop star of charging over $4500 to his credit card, and then blackmailing him into keeping quiet about the whole affair by threatening to reveal that he is the father of her eldest son Sean Preston.

According to the National Enquirer, Christopher Federline, brother of Britney’s ex Kevin, made the allegations in a court submission earlier this month which was actually seeking a restraining order against the pop star.

The claimant alleges that Spears stole his credit card after he left it at Kevin Federline’s apartment, and that when he challenged her about sums subsequently charged to it (mainly for the purchase of comic books, apparently) she “blackmailed me and told me if I tell the police that she stole my credit card that she will tell the world I’m the true father of Sean Preston, not Kevin”.

He adds: “I do confess I slept with Britney [while she was married to Kevin], and I am the true father, but the public does not need to know”.

Quite why Chris Federline would make such allegations, or want Britney restrained, isn’t clear, though media reports say that a judge pretty quickly dismissed the case, so presumably the wild claims weren’t backed up by much credible evidence.
