Bombay Bicycle Club

Born from the leafy north London oasis of Crouch End, Bombay Bicycle Club formed in 2005, winning Channel 4’s ‘Road To V’ contest the following year, bagging themselves an opening slots at V Festival. The band forged a strong line in earnest indie with debut album ‘I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose’, taking its title from a line in A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘After Hours’.

Its Ivor Novello-nominated successor ‘Flaws’, an acoustic about-face as compared to their more established sound, came out last year. Then lead singer Jack Steadman shared production duties with Jim Abiss – who also worked on ‘I Had The Blues’ – and Ben Allen (Deerhunter, Animal Collective) on the band’s third LP, ‘A Different Kind Of Fix’, which came out earlier this year. Sprinkled with loops, layering and pockets of dreamy reverb, it represents their most polished piece of work yet.

Having just completed a UK tour and now preparing for a jaunt to South America next month followed by more European dates, bassist Ed Nash chose some songs for a Powers Of Ten playlist.

01 Reptar – Blastoff
Ben Allen took us to see these guys play at a house party when we were recording in Atlanta.

02 Alexis Jordan – Happiness
An amazing pop song. We covered this for the Live Lounge.

03 Theme Park – Wax
One of my favourite new bands.

04 Sufjan Stevens – Too Much
I went to see Sufjan play at the Royal Festival Hall earlier this year. He went all out, including dance routines and dressing up as a swan. Brilliant.

05 Dog Is Dead – Young
We watched these guys every single night when they supported us on our latest tour. I am sure it will be the last time they are ‘first on support’ for anyone.

06 Bert Jansch – Strolling Down The Highway
A huge inspiration to Bombay Bicycle Club.

07 Talking Heads – This Must Be The Place
The song I listened to after moving out of my family home.

08 Two Door Cinema Club – Something Good Can Work (The Twelves Remix)
We supported these guys in the States in September and I had this song stuck in my head for the whole two weeks.

09 Fat Man Scoop – Be Faithful
The song we come on stage to.

10 The Stone Roses – I Am The Resurrection
The coolest outro ever. Can’t wait to see them play next year.
