Wall

Since 2007, Black Cab Sessions has showcased a near constant stream of brilliant, stripped down and often surprising performances from a whole range of artists, from the well-established to the brand new. So, it stands to reason that, when the people behind the site announced that they were so excited about one new artist that they were going to set up a label to release their debut single, we should take notice.

Producer/singer Wall does a nice line in dusty pop, the lead track on single release ‘Magazine’ reflecting in its production the lyrical theme of yearning for the spring and warmer, better times. B-side, ‘Over My Head’, is similarly muted but heavily layered, while on ‘No Secrets’ (which is available as a free download) she strips back the musical base to allow space for her strong vocals to spill up and over the sides.

With the single due out on 3 Sep, Walls tonight plays a launch show at The Sebright Arms in Bethnal Green. Ahead of that, check out all three tracks mentioned and her Black Cab Session below.
