Approved: Various Artists – Taste Of Savage
By Aly Barchi | Published on Thursday 14 February 2013
If Ariel Pink is the father of lo-fi pop, that’d make Montreal’s Sean Nicholas Savage its slightly estranged big brother. He’s released seven (seven!) LPs since 2009, a feat to which a coral of artists are now paying homage via a new LP titled ‘Taste Of Savage – His Pupils Sing His Music’.
Featuring variations on seventeen of Savages ‘greatest hits’ to date by the likes of Mac DeMarco, Doldrums, Calvin Love, Majikal Clouds and weird Canadians Brave Radar – who take especial care of SNS rarity ‘Doin It Right’ – it’s a thrilling if bitty flirtation that spins on Savage’s keen ear for camp and gaudy lo-fi arias.
