Approved: Kurt Vile – Wakin On A Pretty Day
By Aly Barchi | Published on Tuesday 12 February 2013
I love Kurt Vile, so when I heard that ‘Wakin On a Pretty Day’, the first single featuring on his similarly-named new LP ‘Wakin On A Pretty Daze’ (released via Matador on 8 Apr), lasts an extravagant nine-and-a-half minutes, I was nothing if not pleased. Favouring levity over brevity, the new track takes its sweet time and so isn’t concise by any means, but its beautiful and hazed with all kinds of nuance, light and shade and the ribbon-like guitar sprays that are Vile’s signature trait.
You can look at visuals to go with ‘Wakin On A Pretty Day’, plus a film on the making-of Philadelphia graffiti artist ESPO’s mural based on the LP’s tracklisting, now. Or just download the new track for free via the Matador blog.
