Elliphant

So, to Scandinavian reggae and its most ‘relevant’ representatives, Stockholm’s Elliphant, who’ve so far released just two singles; lurid rap hallucinogen ‘Tekkno Scene’ and its provocative plus-one ‘Cian’t Hear It’. A divisive and much-sidelined micro-genre as micro-genres go, Scandinavian reggae, but it’s one that Ellinor Olovsdotter et al are just about able to carry off. Just.

Bar the odd, very far-off flash of ‘Do It Like A Dude’-esque affectation (I’d rather I hadn’t realised that Jessie J parallel, but I have and it’s too late to do anything about it now), new track ‘Down On Life’ is nothing but exemplary alt-pop, a lurching, dancehall-furred leviathan birthed via Icona Pop/Niki & The Dove MDs Company Ten.

The track is to be released on 14 Jan as part of Elliphant’s eponymous debut EP, and this is its video:
