Approved: Ducktails
By Aly Barchi | Published on Thursday 6 December 2012
A one-time solo endeavour that now classes New Jersey alt-pop quartet Big Troubles as being “here to stay” within its ranks, Real Estate guitarist Matthew Mondanile’s loose Ducktails collective releases its (his? their?) new LP, ‘The Flower Lane’, via Domino on 28 Jan.
Having heard the record’s title track back in October, Mondanile Inc has just shared a brand new dispatch, ‘Letter Of Intent’. Enveloping playing by Oneohtrix Point Never’s Daniel Lopatin and guest vox by Jessa Farkas and Ian Drennan (of psychedelic NYC types Future Shuffle and the aforementioned Big Troubles respectively), the new track flits prettily past in a pink-tinged mist of synths, keys and the candied caress of Farkas and Drennan’s lovers’ Tête à Tête. Ah, it is so nice.
Ducktails, by the way, play Brighton’s Green Door Store on 24 Feb, and London’s The Lexington the following night.
