Andy Cato to launch solo album with photography exhibition

Groove Armada’s Andy Cato is set to release solo album, ‘Times & Places’, through Apollo/R&S on 29 Apr.
Featuring work that goes back two decades, tracks on the LP date back as far as 1993, before Groove Armada formed, and were recorded in numerous locations. To celebrate his finally managing to get these tracks down on record, Cato will launch it all with a two month photographic exhibition at The Book Club in Shoreditch displaying the history and locations in which the album was created.
Recalling when he first decided to put together the retrospective of unreleased works, Cato told CMU: “The first spark for ‘Times & Places’ came in 2011. It was daybreak in an East European republic on top of a Greek temple, with a micro light dropping confetti on the crowd and the country’s defence minister in the booth with sausage dog balloons around his head. Driving back through the desert-like fields and potholes, memories from the road merged, flashed and disappeared. Fragments of a kind of audio diary began to appear. Soundtracks to those long moments in between gigs, where a four-track, computer or piano was to hand. This album and exhibition represents a handful, at least, of these times and places”.
The exhibition will be launched with a private view on 25 Apr, with DJ sets from Cato and Geddes. It will then be open to the public until 25 Jun. Here’s a video to get you in the mood:
