The CMU Insights business is led by Chris Cooke and Sam Taylor, who both have over a decade’s experience in the music, media and marketing sectors.

Chris Cooke co-founded CMU in 1998, and continues to contribute to the title as Business Editor. Having written about the music business daily for over ten years, he is a leading expert on the sector, and often comments on developments in it for other media, most notably the BBC. With degrees in English and Law, he is a particular expert on music rights, and has closely documented the online piracy story.

As Director of CMU Insights, Chris has provided training to hundreds of music business professionals, and hundreds more grass roots songwriters and musicians, as well as consulting for numerous music and media companies. He also programmes the conference side of The Great Escape, Europe’s leading festival for new music and the UK’s premiere music business event.

Chris is also co-owner and MD of CMU publisher UnLimited Media, and in that role publishes CMU and culture magazines ThisWeek London and ThreeWeeks Edinburgh; provides media and PR training and consultancy through UnLimited Insights, including to the award-winning Taylor Bennett Foundation; and heads up the UnLimited Creative media services agency.

Sam Taylor has worked on various projects with UnLimited Media since 2001, initially focused on the company’s ThreeWeeks Edinburgh title before becoming involved in CMU and other UnLimited ventures.

He now leads commercial activities for UnLimited Publishing and works as an Associate of CMU Insights, devising and running training courses focused on digital, marketing and social media, and managing research and consultancy projects. He also contributes to the programming of The Great Escape convention.

Aside from his UnLimited work, Sam is involved in a variety of other projects. He has worked in and around the music, marketing and digital businesses for over ten years, helping leading entertainment companies and brands communicate more effectively online, and leading and advising a number of technology start-ups. He also has hands-on experience working on music and marketing projects involving artists, labels, brands and media.
