Ticketing firm WeGotTickets has unveiled its first Indie 50 list – a rundown of the 50 people a panel of judges deemed to be the most influential in grassroots music in the UK.

Among those anointed are SBTV founder Jamal Edwards, GRM Daily editor Caroline Simionescu-Marin, NTS founder Femi Adeymi, Eat Your Own Ears chief Tom Baker, Sebright Arms booker Loretta DeFéo, radio presenter Jon Hillcock, The Local’s Howard Monk, and Ramsgate Music Hall owner Jules Bigg.

“We started out in 2000 as a small ticketing company working on local gigs in Oxford”, says WeGotTickets co-founder Dave Newton. “We now work with thousands of venues and promoters across the UK, and we’ve seen first hand, time and time again, the effect that certain individuals can have on a local scene. Indie 50 is all about celebrating those people and giving them some recognition on a national level”.

Next month, the people featured on the inaugural list will be featured in a photography exhibition at the 71A Gallery in Shoreditch. Photographer Dan Wilton snapped each of them in their natural environment. The exhibition will run from 1-8 Sep.
