Watkins remanded in custody until March
By Chris Cooke | Published on Tuesday 1 January 2013
Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins made a short appearance in a Cardiff court yesterday to hear the grim charges that have been made against him.
As previously reported, Watkins was arrested last month, accused of sexual offences against children, including conspiracy to rape a baby. He is also accused of possessing, making and distributing indecent images, and possessing “extreme” animal pornography. The charges relate to alleged crimes committed between May and December last year.
Watkins was arrested with two women who face similar charges, though the other defendants’ identities have not yet been revealed. The Lostprophets frontman was named “in order to assist the investigation”.
In a short court hearing yesterday, Watkins appeared via a video link from Parc Prison in Bridgend. According to the BBC, he wore a black suit, shirt and tie for the hearing. It is still thought Watkins will deny the allegations that have been made against him. All three defendants were remanded in custody until at least 11 Mar, when another court appearance is expected.
As previously reported, shortly after Watkins was arrested the rest of Lostprophets replaced their website with a statement in which they wrote: “We find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you”. No further comment has been made.
