Unruly AC/DC and Metallica fans arrested
By CMU Editorial | Published on Tuesday 2 February 2010
It was quite a week for gigs getting out of hand last week. At last count, two went a bit haywire. Which is loads.
An AC/DC gig at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand ended in chaos on Saturday night after a load of fans got drunk and started messing about. In total, 50 fans were arrested for being drunk and disorderly, while six ambulances were called to deal with the people who had drunk or ingested so much they couldn’t even manage to be disorderly. Though police inspector Mike Coleman played down the arrests, saying: “[It’s] not bad, [for] a full moon and a nice hot night”.
Meanwhile, last Tuesday, 120 Metallica fans were arrested after 2000 people turned up to a gig by the band at the Club Hípico racecourse in Chile without tickets. Finding themselves shut out, some began rioting, resulting in the police bringing in water cannons to bring the situation under control.
