Organisers of the flagship Miami edition of the American dance music festival Ultra have announced a review of all the event’s security procedures following the previously reported incident last weekend which led to a security guard suffering critical injuries after a group of people breached a stretch of the fencing that surrounded the festival site.

Miami city officials were critical of Ultra promoters after the incident, claiming that the authorities had warned organisers about the issues with the particular area of fencing where the incident took place. Mayor Tomas Regalado said of the incident “this is something that could have been avoided”, and then told reporters he would be looking into blocking the festival from taking place in the city in future years.

But Ultra management insist that their security measures were fit for purpose this year, stressing that they had more police officers on site, that fencing was enhanced and that they worked closely with local police, fire and risk management departments.

Though, after criticising the actions of “unruly gatecrashers who lacked tickets” and who “engaged in criminal activity”, the event’s organisers said they would be looking into how to further step up security procedures in 2015, and that they will work with the Miami Police Department to identify possible improvements.

Meanwhile a spokesman for Erica Mack, the security guard who suffered brain and leg injuries in the aforementioned incident at Ultra this year, said his client’s condition was now improving, but that she was still in a lot of pain.
