UB40 founding trio recording new material

Having regrouped for a gig last month, three founder members of pop reggae outfit UB40 are now working on a new album, they have confirmed.

Original frontman Ali Campbell and keyboardist Mikey Virtue, who quit UB40 somewhat acrimoniously in 2008, are teaming up with vocalist Astro, who parted company with the band last November declaring his former group “like a rudderless ship with no clear direction”.

Which is possibly interesting in itself, though more so because the trio have registered the domain ub40.org and seem set to release any new material under that moniker, despite the fact the UB40 they left is still ticking along with Campbell’s brother Duncan up front.

So, that could mean there’ll be two UB40s touring later this year. Perhaps one of them could play The Hop Farm Festival while the other could play The Hop Farm Festival.
