Throws

Do you remember Tunng? Sure you do. Well now they’re back. Except they’re not. Oh, I’ve already made this confusing, haven’t I? I should just have said that Tunng founders Mike Lindsay and Sam Genders have a new project called Throws. Ten years on (give or take) from their final album as Tunng, the pair have reunited and will release their debut album in their new guise through Full Time Hobby on 10 Jun.

The project came together when Genders flew over to Reykjavik, where Lindsay now lives, for a bit of a catch up. “The whole month became a cathartic party”, Lindsay recalls. “We talked about the challenges we were facing in life. We walked by the sea and along the city’s small streets to crowded bars and cafes. We drank, laughed a lot, and danced like madmen on moonshine whilst recording whatever ideas came to us without any responsibilities other than making music, eating, and sleeping”.

“One lunchtime on the second day we opened a beer to get us in the flow, then Sam started singing in this high-pitched falsetto Northern soul warble… it was like ‘that’s it! That’s the sound!”, he continues. “From that point on we found a flavour and vice for whatever this project was going to be”.

“To make music in a place like Iceland will always leave you feeling refreshed and powerful… it’s just in the air”, adds Genders.

The duo have UK shows coming up supporting Choir Of Young Believers and Farao, and will headline their own album release show at The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington on 15 Jun.
