Legendary reggae label Trojan has announced that it will release a new five disc boxset chronicling its history next month. The release of ‘The Story Of Trojan Records’ on 29 Aug will also coincide with the relaunch of the company’s fanclub The Trojan Appreciation Society.

The five discs will each cover a theme – The Hits, The Artists, The Producers, The Labels, plus rare and unreleased tracks. 67 tracks will appear on CD for the first time, and 20 have never seen the light of day at all. As well as the music, there will be a 50 page book with a foreword by Rhoda Dakar, four postcards, a window sticker and a twelve track bonus download compilation for anyone who signs up to the fanclub.

Commenting on that fan club, Johnny Hudson, Head of Marketing for Universal Music Catalogue, who control the Trojan catalogue, told CMU: “Trojan Records is one of very few labels with a resilient legacy and an identity that resonates deeply with its fans. It is to reggae what Motown or Stax is to soul. The catalogue just doesn’t seem to age, and continues to influence and inspire countless new sounds, artists and generations”.

He adds: “We therefore felt a real opportunity to re-launch the Trojan Appreciation Society and engage with fans in a more meaningful way. We want to build a thriving community where we can identify what people want at the same time as rewarding their loyalty and allegiance to the label. This will present many exciting opportunities for the label and its fans to get closer”.

A website for the Trojan Appreciation Society will go live on 15 Aug, here.
