Times removes Nick Cave article after online criticism

The Times has removed from its website an article about the singer Nick Cave which first appeared in the title’s print edition on Friday, after an online backlash to the piece. The article followed the death of Cave’s fifteen year old son Arthur, who fell from a cliff close to his Brighton home last Tuesday.
It was one of two pieces published by the broadsheet following the tragic incident which referenced the dark themes explored in the singer songwriter’s oeuvre, with the Friday article also noting previous comments he had made about allowing children to encounter fear, headlined ‘Let your children feel fear, Cave urged before son’s death’.
Wondering what any of that had to do with last week’s events, numerous people criticised the Times’ decision to run the piece, at all really, but especially at this time. It’s not known if Cave himself had seen the article, or whether the News UK received any formal complaints from people close to the family, but the newspaper confirmed on Friday afternoon it was spiking the piece online.
A spokesperson told The Guardian: “We published a story about Nick Cave and his son in the paper today, which we later decided was inappropriate. We have now removed it from our digital platforms”.
