Single Review: Tilly And The Wall – Pot Kettle Black (Moshi Moshi)

Tilly And The Wall

Tilly And The Wall is more of a project than a band, really. The group comprises five songwriters who gathered together when they discovered that however powerful their music was individually, as a single unit they were a force to be reckoned with. Well, that and the fact that the big bad music world is rather lonely and a lot less fun on your own. Conor Oberst’s Team Love label plucked them out of obscurity in Omaha to release two whole albums full to the brim with the joys and hopes gained from loves lost and won. ‘Pot Kettle Black’ is taken from their third long player, ‘O’. On this track the Wall have been done wrong and boy, do they let us know about it in their signature commanding percussive shouty style of chorus. The thunderous drums beat a battle with the Karen O meets The Go! Team style vocals throughout ‘Pot Kettle Black’. I don’t know who won, but I liked it. MB
