Thousand of AC/DC fans damn excited by ticket refund offer
By Chris Cooke | Published on Thursday 5 May 2016
Presumably aware that the decision to put Axl Rose on vocals was likely to divide the room, promoters of the upcoming AC/DC shows gave fans the option to get themselves a refund, they having bought the tickets expecting to hear long-term frontman Brian Johnson on vocals like normal.
And, according to Belgian newspaper De Standaard, about 7000 fans said “fuck yeah I’ll take that refund” from just the band’s 16 May date at the country’s Werchter Festivalpark. The deadline for demanding a refund to the Live Nation promoted show was last Monday, with a thousand of the returned tickets going to fans on a waiting list, and the rest going on general release.
As previously reported, Johnson had to stand down from AC/DC’s touring activity after being told further arena and stadium shows could result in complete hearing loss. Some have criticised the band for the way they have announced Johnson’s retirement from live performance and Rose’s subsequent recruitment.
And that includes comedian Jim Breur, a friend of Johnson, who blamed AC/DC co-founder and guitarist Angus Young for the way the band handled the change in frontman.
Comparing Johnson and the band’s respective statements on the matter, Bruer told the Talk Toomey podcast, according to Blabbermouth: “It seemed like, at the end, when it was all said and done, Brian came off very classy, and Angus came off cold, like Walmart just replacing a cashier… like he’s replacing a cashier”.
