The ten most-read news stories on the CMU site in April 2015

Well, here we are again, checking what folks were looking at on the CMU site during the last month. And in April, the big draw was the news that Celador was rebranding its Jack FM stations – in part due to people running to the internet after turning on their radios and wondering why they were now listening to something called Sam FM.
After that was the news that SoundCloud had partnered with the company that powers YouTube’s Content ID system to help monetise content on the platform. This didn’t stop Sony Music from pulling its content from the service this week, after talks over the revamped platform seemingly stalled. And in not entirely unrelated news, YouTube’s announcement that it is adding an ad-free paid subscription option was the fourth most popular news story last month.
There were other big digital stories too, with Tidal hitting back at the long line of critics of its pretty terrible launch event, and our prediction that Grooveshark’s days were numbered, which turned out to be true when it shut down later the same week.
Meanwhile, in CMU features, our more popular reads were Dan Le Sac’s reverse engineering of Geoff Barrow from Portishead’s streaming income, followed by another from Dan on the value of an album, a beef of the week featuring Leona Lewis, an interview with Deezer’s Sam Lee, and Eddy Temple-Morris on a tinnitus awareness compilation.
