The Mansun Convention – a convention celebrating the band Mansun and only the band Mansun – will take place at The Live Rooms in Chester on 23 Aug. No, it really will. It’s not even the first time it’s happened. How did we miss this?

There will be Mansun-based discussions, open mic sessions for fans to perform their favourite Mansun songs, screenings of previously unseen Mansun footage, an exhibition of Mansun memorabilia, a charity auction of Mansun-related stuff, and no less than three performances by tribute acts (well, two tribute acts and an act paying tribute).

It actually sounds kind of brilliant. Let’s all go. Tickets and other info here.

Oh, and here’s a little compilation of some Mansun studio outtakes, of which convention organiser Andy Lyth says: “This is an incredible discovery for Mansun fans – listening to this material is like hearing the Beatles ‘Anthology’ series, and will change the way fans enjoy [Mansun’s debut album] ‘Attack Of The Grey Lantern’. We’re all looking forward to hearing Ronnie’s stories about recording such a seminal album”.

Listen!
