The Bull & Gate turns 30

London venue The Bull & Gate, famed for putting on early gigs by many a household name, including Blur, Manic Street Preachers, Keane and Bloc Party, will celebrate its 30th birthday in September with a month of gigs featuring bands who have performed at the venue across its history.
The series of gigs, run under the title ’30 days hath September – 30 years hath The Bull & Gate’, is being put together by promoter Club Fandango, which took over day-to-day booking at the venue in June.
Club Fandango head Andy MacLeod told Music Week: “We actually promoted a show here with Keane to try to save The Bull & Gate when it looked like it might have to close a few years back. Shortly afterwards the pub became a listed building and that effectively did the trick, but now we’re wanting to get back to re-establishing it as a mainstay on the live circuit. I think the guy that used to run the music side had lost the drive for it and it was a shadow of its former self”.
He added: “We’ve spent a couple of months installing new lights and PA. It’s been great fun trying to turn it around and we’ve already got loads of things coming in including nights by WeGotTickets, Domino Records, Steve Lamacq, Drowned in Sound, Fierce Panda, Feeling Gloomy and The Best Of MySpace”.
Kicking things off will be Pete & The Pirates on 1 Sep. Also confirmed are Eugene McGuiness, Jim Bob, Kingmaker, Ultrasound, Lovvers, Wojtek Gozisz, Invasion, Revere, Tim Ten Yen, David Cronenberg’s Wife, and more.
