Take That

Take That are getting the keys to The O2 because later this week they will beat Prince’s record of 21 performances at the arena venue. The conclusion of their current ten date run at the Greenwich dome will take them up to 22 sing songs on its big fat stage (if you include things like BRITs appearances, with key cutters famously do).

“It’s a remarkable achievement to hit the record established by Prince of 21 shows, but Take That have now smashed it”, says O2 GM Rebecca Kane Burton. “We want to celebrate hitting the magic 21 and the keys to the world’s most popular music venue seemed a fitting tribute to one of this country’s best loved bands”.

Fitting indeed. “Thank the crazy Lord Michael Jackson died”, said a gleeful Gary Barlow, clutching his freshly cut keys and Cellnet key fob. No, not really. We didn’t speak to Gary Barlow. He was too busy trying to work out which of the many doors at The O2 his key actually opens. I bet it gets him into that bit at the back that’s never been used.
