Charles Garland has announced that he is leaving Syco Entertainment, Simon Cowell’s joint venture with Sony Music, of course, which includes the Syco TV business and record label.

Garland was promoted from his previous role at Syco, COO, to take the top job in 2012, having joined the company in 2011. He previously worked for then ‘Idol’ owner 19 Entertainment and ran his own band-brands partnership agency.

Announcing his departure, Garland said: “I leave the business in magnificent shape and poised for further growth. Throughout my career I have always been keen to push on and seek out new challenges and for me now is the right time to do so”.

Cowell added: “Charles is a true gentleman and a very talented executive. And I now wish him well with his future plans”.

What those future plans are is not yet clear.
