Spotify surveying users on best tracks for “music moments”

Spotify is inviting UK users to vote on the tracks that best suit their “music moments”, which basically means picking the best songs for driving, getting a party started, getting through Monday morning or surviving a hangover.

However, before you all think that this is a great opportunity to annoy the Spotify naysayers by forcing Radiohead and Talking Heads tracks to the top of all these polls, voters have to pick from shortlists of five for each category.

Though those who like to annoy pop stars might want to let Hanson know they are up for the Best One Hit Wonder category. Spotify will presumably side-step the wrath of Hanson fans (yes, they still exist) by stressing that the shortlists are based on the songs that most frequently appear in user-created playlists on their platform that are based around each topic.

So it’s Spotify users, rather than Spotify itself, that think that the best way to ‘get a party started’ is to swot up on all the excuses you could use if you accidentally rape someone before the night is out. Ah, those ‘Blurred Lines’ are everywhere, aren’t they?

Says Spotify VP Global Communications Angela Watts of the user survey: “We can’t wait to hear which track gets wallflowers strutting their stuff on the dance floor…. or the song that gets even the laziest person turning the treadmill up a notch at the gym”.
