Spotify designer moves to Facebook
By CMU Editorial | Published on Thursday 12 August 2010
Spotify’s Lead Designer Rasmus Andersson, who has been with the company since work first began on the popular music streaming software in 2006, has announced that he is moving on to become a Product Designer at Facebook.
It’s not clear exactly what Anderson will be working on over at the social networking giant, but he has indicated it will involve music, leading to new speculation Facebook is planning some sort of proprietary music service. Facebook has had various goes at developing some sort of music channel, though none have really come to fruition. However, a lot of bands still use the social networking platform as a fan communication tool, so there is probably still an opportunity for Facebook to get a slice of the digital music pie if it wants it, probably at MySpace Music’s expense.
Writing on his blog, Anderson said: “Leaving Spotify is indeed very emotional – my little baby – but at some point you have to let the bird out of its cage. I believe Facebook is a very interesting entity which is changing the way we look at the internet in large – I’m thrilled and very happy to become a part of that”.
He continued: “For me, working with basic human needs (music, social interaction, etc) in an aspect where peoples lives are being improved, has always been the focus of my professional life, thus both Spotify and now Facebook”.
