Former Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized bassist Will Carruthers is to publish an autobiography, ‘Playing The Bass With Three Left Hands’, later this year.

Giving a sense of the book’s content, as well as explaining the title, Carruthers writes: “I can confirm that should you ever find yourself on stage playing the bass guitar with three left hands, it is usually the one in the middle that is the real one. The other two are probably phantoms”.

Providing some sort of testimony, Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre (for whom Carruthers played bass between 2008 and 2010) adds: “I’ve known Will for a number of years. I know the places, people, personalities, music and history very well and all of this information leads me to believe that this book is one hell of a yarn”.

He goes on: “In person, Will is a great storyteller, and a natural narrator. His perspective is important; it’s sure to piss off a few, but they should be thankful I’m not writing this book. And it’s like my grandma says, ‘It’s better to be pissed off than to be pissed on”.

Indeed. ‘Playing The Bass With Three Left Hands’ will be on sale via Faber on 3 Aug.
