“Sit back, tune in and discover”. Not my words, people. I’d never advocate sitting back. Sit up straight, I say. And tuning in is a very dangerous pursuit. You might discover something new. And who wants that? Well, lots of people, SoundCloud hopes, because those words, ladies and gentlemen, are its words.

So, SoundCloud has extended its ‘related tracks’ feature to create something of a personalised radio experience tapping into the 100 million+ tracks on the platform. It’s all called Stations. Not to be confused with Amazon Prime Stations of course. That’s all about sitting back, tuning in and discovering, whereas this is totally different.

“Stations is a new way to discover the tracks you’ve never heard anywhere else”, said the digital firm in a blog post yesterday. “Making it easy to tap into a long stream of music related to your Likes. It takes our previous Related Tracks feature and brings it further, simplifying the functionality and making the recommendations even better”.

Available via SoundCloud’s iOS and Android apps, a station can be generated from any track or search term. So for example, you could search for “damn fine music business chatter”, and then sit back and discover a whole library of CMU Podcasts. Yeah, Amazon Prime, you don’t have that with your Stations do you? Suckers.

“Once you find a few stations you like, you can access them at any time in your Collection, along with your Likes and Playlists”, SoundCloud’s blog waffles on. “Now, never-ending listening based on your favourite tracks is always just a few taps away. Lean back and enjoy”.

Woah there, lean back? Lean back? You’re going to topple off your chair if you’re not careful, and when you break your spine and sue SoundCloud for damages, you know they’re going to plead “safe harbours”. So by all means tune in and discover. But be careful, people. It’s a dangerous world out there.
