Sony Music has announced a deal with Kurt Hugo Schneider, another one of those YouTube stars you’ll all now have to pretend you’d heard of before. Yeah, Kurt Hugo Schneider! Who’d have thought it possible?

He’ll work with the major on a new online series called ‘To The Beat’, which will pair other YouTubers with popstars who have come up through more traditional channels (mainly being signed to Sony Music) for the purpose of collaboration.

“We are delighted to be joining forces with Kurt, one of YouTube’s biggest and most talented stars for this exciting new series”, said Sony Music’s Head Of Original Content, Lee Stimmel. “Kurt is a wonderful, multifaceted creative talent and has an incredibly special relationship with millions of passionate music fans around the world. This partnership highlights the great opportunities we have to connect our amazing artists and fans through original content”.

Schneider added: “I’m thrilled to be working with Sony Music on this unique project. As a producer on YouTube, my goal is to create great content that showcases performers. I’m excited to be working with Sony’s awesome performers”.

The ten episode series will air on Schneider’s YouTube channel next year, and will feature interviews with guests as well as performances. This is Sony Music’s second online series, following on from Fun guitarist Jack Antonoff’s ‘Thank You And Sorry’, a six-part scripted show starring his other band Bleachers, which was released through Google Play.
