A lot of people are getting very excited about the new SMD album, which features contributions from a bevy of excellent vocalists, including Gossip’s Beth Ditto, Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor and, on first single ‘Audacity Of Huge’, Chris Keating of New Yorkers Yeasayer, who produced one of 2007/08’s finest albums in ‘All Hour Cymbals’. Name-dropping everyone from Bill Murray to Pete Tosh, it’s an underwhelming dance track that has a red herring intro where Keating repeats “Huge” despite any ‘huge’ beats ever dropping. More impressive are the contributions from Taylor and Ditto, with ‘Bad Blood’ featuring Taylor sounding like a haunted Hot Chip offshoot and Ditto’s vocals filling out ‘Cruel Intentions’ nicely, proving herself ideally suited to dance music. Head to Hype Machine to sample the lot.
