Approved: Discovery (SNAP Of The Day)

When Dirty Projectors flitted with noughties r’n’b production on ‘Stillness Is The Move’ earlier this year, New York’s Discovery must have been listening and seeing inroads being made for acceptance in the holier than thou world of indie criticism. Their own songs are based on the genre’s jumpy beats, though showered in Nintendo bleeps, undercurrents of chugging synth and swirling electronic sounds that arrive like a lighter Ratatat, or even Passion Pit with half their synthesisers confiscated. Vocally, meanwhile, there’s a soothing tone on ‘Orange Shirt’, leading the listener into thinking that they’re about to hit a hardball chorus when another plateau is just seconds away. Ace stuff.
