Artist News Releases
Sharon Van Etten, Lykke Li LPs incoming
By Aly Barchi | Published on Monday 20 January 2014
Today’s insubstantial release announcement highlights regard Lykke Li and Sharon Van Etten, who both have solo LPs on the way.
NME (and Stereogum) readers will already know, via a piece in last week’s edition, that Van Etten’s follow-on to 2012’s ‘Tramp’ is titled ‘Are We There?’, and is feted for a May release. As will Sharon’s super-fans, who’ve been talking about the album for a while now, going as far as to make a Tumblr naming all possible guests on it, and filing the titles of live demos that could make its tracklisting. So plough through that at this link, if you’re curious.
Lykke Li, too, has shared a minumum of info on her third solo LP, following 2011’s ‘Wounded Rhymes’, with the NME. Also due out in May, the untitled work is, Li says, the last third of a trilogy beginning with her 2007 debut ‘Youth Novels’.
Elaborating (a bit), Li adds: “It’s always about me and the guilt and the shame and the hurt and the pride and the confusion of being a woman, I always feel like I’ve been slightly misunderstood. As a woman you get judged for appearances or things like that I don’t really care about. If anything I want to be seen as a singer-songwriter rather than a pop artist. I really feel like I’ve found my voice”.
