A lawsuit being pursed against Shakira by her ex-boyfriend and former business partner has been dismissed by a judge in California.

As previously reported, Antonio De La Rua, who split with Shakira after a decade together in 2010, sued last November, claiming that he was due a share of the revenues stemming from the singer’s $300 million deal with Live Nation, an arrangement he claimed he helped secure.

His lawsuit also alleged that when the couple first split they agreed he would continue to be involved in Shakira’s professional affairs, and receive a cut of her company’s profits, but that he was subsequently pushed out of the business.

The singer filed her own legal papers calling for the lawsuit to be dismissed in April, meanwhile via separate legal action in Switzerland De La Rua unsuccessfully tried to get access to one of her bank accounts, claiming it contained monies from their past business dealings together.

The American lawsuit was dismissed last week after the singer’s lawyers successfully argued that any dispute between the ex couple should be heard by the courts in Shakira’s native Colombia, or in the Bahamas, were she currently lives.

Welcoming the ruling, Shakira said in a statement: “I am very grateful that the courts are not allowing these groundless lawsuits to proceed. I have moved on in my life and could not be happier now. I hope this harassment will now come to an end”.
