Samsung stages intimate gigs to showcase ticketing app

Samsung has announced a new music programme called Galaxy Studio Live which will utilise a Samsung Smart Ticket app, a digital platform that aims to improve the ticketing experience for fans, as well as offering punters access to exclusive content related to the gig and artists a closer connection to their audiences. Oh, and it’ll make the users’ phones light up during the gig, a bit like the Coldplay wristbands.

The campaign will feature four intimate gigs by, respectively, Biffy Clyro (28 Oct, GLive, Guildford), Laura Mvula (13 Nov, Under the Bridge, Chelsea), Bullet For My Valentine (27 Nov, Cambridge Junction) and Bastille (20 Nov, Bush Hall, Shepherd’s Bush). Access to the gigs will be via the Samsung app.

Simon Stanford, VP IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland told CMU: “Samsung is committed to using technology innovations to improve the live music experience for fans and artists. The Samsung Galaxy Studio Live features some of the UK’s top artists playing at some of the best live music venues around, with the experience for both artists and fans enhanced through Samsung’s mobile technology”.

Meanwhile artist manager Brian Message, Chairman of the Music Manager’s Forum but invited to this party because his firm ATC Management manages Laura Mvula, welcomed the initiative as follows: “At the MMF we have believed for a while that the smartphone is the key music device of the future. Market penetration is sufficiently high and the devices have widespread support from both the traditional and emerging music businesses”.

Focusing on the potential of mobile ticketing, he went on: “Electronic concert ticketing is widely accepted as a great idea and, not least, as one of the means of tackling the much-publicised problems related to un-regulated secondary ticketing. It is great to see the largest smartphone manufacturer Samsung take the initiative with a technology which also enhances the most important relationship in music, that between artist and fan. We look forward to Smart Tickets becoming as natural to buying a concert ticket as downloads have become to buying recordings”.
