Rumours have been flying around about the future of AC/DC over the last 24 hours, but so far the band have not commented.

The rumours began in Australia based on comments from broadcaster Peter Ford at 3AW, and an email from an anonymous source sent to another radio station, 6PR. As the story developed over the course of yesterday, it was reported that upon reuniting with the band, guitarist Malcolm Young has found himself unable to play guitar following treatment for a blood clot on his brain after suffering a stroke.

This would seem to tie in with comments made by frontman Brian Johnson earlier this year, when he told Florida radio station Gater 98.7: “We’ve been denying [that we’re doing] anything, cos we weren’t sure. One of our boys was pretty ill, so we didn’t like to say anything, and we’re very private about things like this, so we didn’t wanna say anything. But I think we’ll be going in the studio in May in Vancouver”.

Subsequently there have been various denials that the band are on the verge of splitting because of Young’s ill-health, including in Billboard, though again from anonymous sources.

There were also various reports that a press conference had been booked by the band for today, in order to officially confirm the rumours of their split. However, as we head into the evening in Australia, this has not yet happened.
