US-based streaming business Rhapsody, which operates the Napster service over here in Europe, has also announced it will “wind down” its partnership with music data miner The Echo Nest, following Spotify’s acquisition of the analytics firm.

The unsurprising move follows a similar announcement from Rdio, the CEO of which previously stated his company would move away from providing data to and buying music discovery intelligence from the stats firm. Which increasingly makes The Echo Nest look like the stats and music discovery department of Spotify, rather than a platform agnostic data services provider.

The Napster owner, which also claims to have seen a 40% growth in paid subscribers over the last six months, said that it would rather future development of its music recommendation services be based on data gathered within the Rhapsody family.
