Regina Spektor announces new album

I’m not really a big fan of longevity. If I had my way, all but a handful of artists would be banned from ever releasing more than two albums. Generally, if you can’t say all you need to in that time then you’re not trying hard enough (see also: my views on reunions).

If nothing else, it would probably put an end to the tedious, and previously mentioned, practice of releasing two albums in one year, unless artists were particularly keen on getting out of the industry fast.

That said, there are (and would have to be) exceptions to that rule, Regina Spektor being one of them. She has plenty to say and I’m quite happy for her to keep on saying it. Which means she would be able to release her fifth album, ‘Far’, which is pencilled in for a 30 Jun release via Sire in the US.

For the new album, Spektor has worked with a number of producers, starting with David Kahne who produced her last album, ‘Begin To Hope’, but also dallying with Jacknife Lee, Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Maroon 5), and ELO frontman Jeff Lynne.

The final touches are currently being put on the recordings, with the final tracklist still to be decided. However, a couple of tracks that have long been features of her live shows but have never made it onto a record, ‘Folding Chair’ and ‘Genius Next Door’, are said to be among those being considered for inclusion.
