Reading Festival fined over health and safety claim
By CMU Editorial | Published on Friday 9 October 2009
The company responsible for organising the Reading Festival has been fined £4000 in relation to two breaches of health and safety prior to the event in 2006.
Festival Republic subsidiary Reading Festival Ltd admitted to failing to carry out a proper risk assessment and failing to ensure the safety of workers. The claim was brought after a crane ran into power line on the site in August 2006.
As well as a £4000 fine for the two breaches, the company also agreed to pay £21,769 in prosecution costs. Various other charges against Festival Republic chief Melvin Benn related to the same incident were dropped.
