Rdio has a new CEO in the form of Anthony Bay, who has previously worked for Amazon, Microsoft and Apple.

As previously reported, the outgoing CEO at the streaming music firm, Drew Larner, announced he was stepping down back in June, saying that “the best person to take this to the next level is probably someone with a different skill set”. The company subsequently announced it was streamlining its workforce by about 35 people “to improve cost structure and ensure a scalable business model for the long term”.

Confirming his new job yesterday, Bay told reporters: “Subscription music offers an exciting and compelling customer experience and value proposition, and we are still in the very early days of this opportunity. There are well over one billion smartphone users with millions more joining every day, and our vision is for Rdio to become one of the ‘must have’ applications for any listener around the world”.

Meanwhile Rdio founder Janus Friis added: “Under Anthony’s leadership, Rdio will focus on building the world’s best free, ad-supported streaming service and dramatically growing our active, paying user base globally. Anthony will also play a critical role in unlocking the value of our global terrestrial radio partnerships. I look forward to working closely with Anthony and continuing to invest in Rdio’s success”.

As expected, Larner will continue to advise Rdio’s board taking the title Vice-Chairman.
