Radiohead doing cryptic stuff again

Radiohead

Radiohead just did a cryptic thing ahead of the release of their new album, as they tend to do. I feel I need to work on the enthusiasm you’re supposed to have when you write about these things.

At the end of last week, Radiohead’s website and social media accounts went blank, as did Thom Yorke’s Twitter account. The other members of the band didn’t bother though, which leaves them available to be scoured for cryptic information. Colin Greenwood said he was excited about this. Could be important. Ed O’Brien meanwhile asked: “Anyone get anything good in the post today? I got a catalogue, neat!”

I got a catalogue too, but it was one of the many I get for a previous resident of my house. They sure did like their catalogues. Other people got stuff not only addressed to them, but slightly more interesting: a leaflet with an embossed Radiohead logo, which reads “Sing a song of sixpence that goes Burn The Witch. We know where you live”.

This led to speculation that ‘Burn The Witch’ is the title of the new album. Then this morning a video was posted to the band’s Instagram account and subsequently fed out to the other empty social media profiles. It answered all the questions you might have. Not really, it was just a short clip of a stop motion animated bird tweeting. Tweeting is what we used to called the noise birds make when they sing in the olden days. The bird was not tweeting to Twitter. The bird was tweeted to Twitter though. Is this helping?

Anyway, at some point Radiohead will stop pissing about and just announce the album. Brian Message of the band’s management company Courtyard recently said that the album would be out in June. But the band then said that they only have a vague idea of who Brian Message is and that no one should listen to anything he says.

The album will almost certainly be out in June.
