The UK music publishing sector’s collecting society PRS For Music has announced a new training scheme which will see five young people get a two year work placement within the rights organisation with a view to equipping them with relevant skills and knowledge about music rights and the wider music industry. Participants will work in various units across the society, and will receive ongoing careers coaching too.

PRS is encouraging anyone with “a desire to succeed within the music industry” to apply for a place, with no specific academic requirements made. The society says that the new programme is “designed to give a thorough grounding in both global collective rights management and the wider music industry, with successful applicants having the opportunity to learn and work within one of the world’s leading global collective rights management organisations”.

PRS For Music’s HR chief Jane Stables says: “People are at the core of our business and are indeed what makes this company great. With the job market becoming increasingly competitive and volatile, we are acknowledging the very real difficulties people face breaking into music publishing and rights management by diversifying our search to find the very best people for the job. To achieve this, we are looking for those who show ability, aptitude, grit and the competencies needed to work successfully in the fast paced world of the music industry. I would encourage all who want to experience this fascinating industry first hand to apply for this opportunity”.
