PRS For Music announces £10,000 pub makeover prize winner

The UK music publishing sector’s collecting society PRS For Music has announced the winner of this year’s Music Makeover competition, which awards a pub with a grant to help improve its facilities for live music. This year The Railway Inn in Leicester takes the £10,000 prize.
As well as the cash, The Railway Inn’s Shaun Jackson will be given mentoring from The Musicians’ Union, The British Bar & Pub Association (BBPA) and music equipment supplier GAK.
PRS Chairman Guy Fletcher told CMU: “The objective of PRS For Music’s Music Makeover is to empower publicans around the country with the know-how to turn their venues into a real hub for music in their local communities. We were very impressed with Shaun’s passion and enthusiasm for developing a unused area of The Railway Inn and providing a dynamic space for local bands to practise and play”.
Jackson himself added: “Oakham and Rutland is home to excellent grassroots talent and music fans alike but unfortunately the area lacks suitable venues. We want to remedy that and offer local bands a quality place to hone their skills for free and kick start the local music scene”.
As well as the top prize going to The Railway Inn, The Rose & Crown in Taunton, which was caught in the floods in Somerset earlier this year, was also given £2,500 to help add facilities for local children to come and play music.
