Promoters bidding to host Bowie shows, says The Mirror

Live Nation is said (mainly by The Mirror) to be involved in a bidding war with rival promoters to stage David Bowie’s first live shows since 2007.

The paper claims it has information on a potential early move by Live Nation, which has apparently asked Bowie to play at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park next year. The Mirror also links Live Nation to Isle Of Wight/Solo Music Agency boss John Giddings, who has been involved in Bowie’s past live ventures, and who back in January said a Bowie tour was “the holy grail of promoters”.

The Mirror reckons Live Nation’s biggest competitor AEG Live will make a rival play “shortly”. Though when asked for a comment by the NME, a spokesperson for Bowie said that “there are currently no plans for any live dates”.

So, this may or may not all be nonsense, but it’d tie in quite nicely with show-based hints Bowie’s wife Iman made earlier this year. And there’s the fact that 2014 is the 50th anniversary year since the release of ‘Liza Jane’, Bowie’s first solo single. Then there’s the fact that his new LP, ‘The Next Day’, was quite some time in development, yet Bowie said nothing until he was good and ready to.
