Programme coming together for Dubai Sound City
By CMU Editorial | Published on Monday 28 September 2009
I’m a very busy man, you all know that, but if anyone fancies flying me out to attend this music business bash I’ll probably be able to find a gap in my hectic schedule. More details of Dubai Sound City have been announced, a new music convention modelled on the much previously reported Liverpool Sound City event but staged in the United Arab Emirates, which isn’t that dissimilar to Merseyside I’m sure you’ll agree (well, there’s an oil refinery on the Mersey, and quite a lot of sand round Southport way).
Among the bands set to play DSC are classic acts like the Human League and Echo & The Bunnymen, alongside newer talent like Wave Machines and We Have Band. Meanwhile on the conference schedule are a host of music execs from around the world, including Indian festival promoter Bobby Talwar, Shun Mori from Japanese publishers Fujipacific and Hussain Spek Yoosuf of Fairwood Music Arabia.
Plus, from closer to home, the BPI’s indies man Julian Wall, PRS For Music director Myles Keller and The Agency Group’s Geoff Meall will all be in attendance while, with the Liverpool Sound City tie up, some Merseyside based music types will also be their, including Deltasonic Records’ Alan Wills.
In the programme will be debates on social media and mobile downloads, plus sessions on music publishing and live music in the Middle East and elsewhere in Asia.
All this takes place from 5-7 Nov – more at www.dubaisoundcity.com.
