The UK record industry’s collecting organisation PPL has announced that its Annual Performer Meeting, the annual gathering for the society’s recording artist and producer members, will take place at the Royal Institute Of British Architects in London on 27 Nov.

As usual, the meeting will include the election of a new performer director for the organisation, though this time two such directors will actually be appointed, after the creation of an additional performer director post earlier this year.

Since merging with the collecting organisations that represented individual recording artists, as opposed to record labels, in 2006, PPL has had four performer directors, two elected by performer members, and the other two appointed by the Musicians’ Union and actors union Equity respectively. The third elected performer director will take the total to five.

In line with its constitution, current performer director Mark Kelly will stand down at the APM, although he plans to restand for one of the two positions that will then be elected.

Commenting on all this, Gerald Newson, Chairman of the PPL Performer Board, told CMU: “After many healthy discussions, it has been agreed that the constitution of the PPL main board will change to allow a further elected Featured Performer Director to sit on the board. We have worked towards this over the years and are now in a good position to represent even better record companies and performers in respect of the rights that PPL manages on their behalf”.
